Kanga has become a recognisable symbol and mascot of CNW, and since his creation, has developed a personality and life of his own.
Kanga began life many years ago when we decided that CNW needed more than just a logo, but a mascot who could take an active role in the company – someone that could take part in the various activities that CNW are involved in.
The question was who could possibly be worthy enough of this honour. For many reasons, we decided on the kangaroo. You can’t get more Australian than the kangaroo, featured alongside the emu on our coat of arms. But apart from being Australian, kangaroos have characteristics that CNW associates with.
Kangaroos are always moving forward. It’s physically not possible for them to move backwards. Just like CNW, who always move forward and look to the future.
- Kangaroos are social animals that live in groups (mobs). This is why Kanga fits in so well. CNW and Kanga both like to socialise.
- The Red Kangaroo is the largest marsupial in the world. CNW is moving forward to becoming the largest electrical wholesaler in Australia.
- Kangaroos have good eyesight and excellent hearing. At CNW, we listen to our customers.
And so began the perfect match. Brian engaged cartoonist, Col Anderson, to draft the first sketches of Kanga, and Kanga was born.
Since Kanga’s first appearance as the face of CNW, he has had many experiences and grown and developed a personality which is CNW. From holidaying to graduate, cricketer to footballer, Kanga’s life has been rich with experiences. And although Kanga has become quite a well-known personality, he’s still the same old larrikin he’s always been.
Who knows where Kanga’s path will take him.
Stay tuned – you’ll be surprised.
